Aqua Zumba®

Aqua Zumba® is the get fit pool party!

The pool based class brings new meaning to the idea of an invigorating workout. It combines the South American Zumba® rhythm and dance steps with a pool party.

The class offers a fun but challenging, water-based, body-toning workout to liven up your working week with some Latin fever.

Aqua Zumba® Light

Aqua Zumba® Lt is a slightly slower and gentler version of the popular aquatic Latin-inspired dance class.

It’s easy to follow and, because your weight is supported in the water, it has little impact on joints.

This makes working out a splash!


Aqua Natal

A low impact exercise class for pregnant or post pregnant women that improves sleep quality, reduces back pain, enhances well-being and encourages bonding.



Les Mills BODYPUMP™ is a barbell workout for anyone looking to get lean, toned and fit - fast! 

Using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition, BODYPUMP™ gives you a total body workout.

You’ll leave the class feeling challenged and motivated, ready to come back for more.


Circuits offers a combination of strength and cardio exercises with short, rapid movement between intervals.

Using bodyweight, dumbbells and kettle bells, this class is designed to improve strength and endurance while burning calories to give you a full body workout. 

This class is suitable for all levels as individuals adjust pace of exercises to their own level of ability and experience.

Metcon Circuit

MetCon (Metabolic Conditioning) aims to make your cardiovascular system work overtime, using an intense combination of vigorous cardio and weight training. This high intensity makes MetCon is a great fat burner, whilst also helping increase muscle mass and improve strength. This class will push you to near maximum intensity. Are you up for the challenge?



Les Mills BODYATTACK™ is a high-energy fitness class with moves that cater for total beginners to the more advanced.

It combines athletic and strength movements for a full body workout.

The energising music and motivational instructor will leave you feeling fantastic with a real release of endorphins! 


BOXFIT is a high energy boxing based class designed to improve cardiovascular fitness, reduce stress and burn lots of calories. You will work in partners throughout the class and will be challenged with varying pad combinations and body weight exercises.

Coach By Color® - Indoor Cycling

Our Coach By Color® class brings a simple and intuitive form of communication to group cycling to improve the rider experience and to achieve your fitness results in less time.

The Coach By Color® power programme combines accurate zonal training with stimulating colour to help coach your effort during the class.

The instructor will work you relevant to your exercise ability via the Coach By Color® five coloured training zones - white, blue, green, yellow and red - making the class fun but also extremely inclusive.

Cycle Express

Cycle Express is a 30-minute high energy cycling based class that involves performing sprint intervals with some endurance training on an indoor bike. This feel good class will help improve your health, cardiovascular fitness and mood.

Cycle Express is suitable for all fitness levels.

Get Fit

Get Fit is similar to our previous Fit ‘n’ 50+ class and is for those who just want to have fun while exercising!

This is an enjoyable and inclusive workout with great music to help build up cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance. The workout will be mainly aerobics-based but will also include strength exercises, balance and stretching. You are guaranteed to leave this class with a smile on your face!

This class is suitable for beginners but more advanced options are available.

STRONG Nation™

STRONG Nation™ incorporates interval cardio training with core and functional training using your own body weight alongside great music to keep you motivated.

This class is suitable for all levels of fitness however anyone with any ongoing medical conditions should check with their health professional.

Intermittent High intensity moves are interchanged with lower intensity moves with modifying exercises available to the participant.  STRONG will improve your strength, stamina, cardio power, mobility and balance while having fun!

Walking Football

Walking Football is a variant of association football and an excellent way of staying fit and healthy. For older people, it has proven to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke while improving blood pressure. Although a low impact sport, the game produces high aerobic activity and improves balance, strength and stamina, all the while having fun with a like-minded group of people.

Walking Football will be played outdoors on the 7 a-side pitch until week commencing 23 August 2021. It will then be relocated to the Arena. Please ensure you check-in at reception before your session.


Zumba® combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations making this a fantastic dance-based fitness workout.

Zumba® is a fun aerobic workout suitable for people of all ages.

50+ Badminton

A sociable Badminton session for people aged 50 and over. 

FTP Ramp Test - Free class

The FTP RAMP test will give you an accurate score that you can then input into the Coach by Color® class to ensure your workout is as relevant to your fitness level as possible (please note, you DO NOT have to complete this to come to the Coach by Color® class but it is highly recommended). 

The test is for all levels, from beginner to elite, and is simply a starting point which gives the rider something to measure their progress as their fitness improves.

FTP, in its simplest form, is a way of helping a rider understand their current level of fitness on a bike. During the FTP RAMP test, every four minutes the WATTs target will increase 25 watts, all you have to do is “KEEP IT GREEN” for as long as you can. Your FTP value and duration are displayed once you have successfully completed the test. The session will take anywhere from 15 - 45 minutes.

By completing the test, you will gain knowledge on:

  • Functional Threshold Power (FTP) test
  • Fitness ability and limits
  • The different Power Zones

This class is ideal for leading into the Coach By Color® Inductions.

These sessions are free but you must book in advance. 

Coach By Color Free Induction

The Coach by Color induction will go through the different colour zones, what they mean and how to find the correct RPM and colour zone efficiently. The instructor will also deliver a sample class (3 songs) to give the customers on idea of the Coach by Color format. The induction is a great opportunity to learn more about the class, especially if a customer is new or has maybe tried the class but not quite understood the ins and outs.

This induction will be followed by a FTP RAMP test which will help you get an accurate FTP score and get the most out of the indoor cycling classes.

Workout with Pride

In partnership with Orkney Pride, come on down to Picky and join Katie for a fun aerobic workout for the entire family to help celebrate Pride! June is Pride month, and to show our support we are offering this event for free. This session is suitable for all abilities and we can guarantee you will leave with a massive smile on your face. Be sure to wear your most colourful kit and let’s all get together and Workout with Pride!

Basic stepping, just like walking up and down stairs, is at the heart of BODYSTEP™. It's is a cardio workout to really tone your lower body but also improve your overall fitness.

With a mixture of upbeat, rhythmic stepping, BODYSTEP™ offers specific exercises for a fun, uplifting and full-body workout!

You will be given a range of options to suit all abilities so that everyone leaves feeling they've had a successful workout.

Picky PE

Picky PE is a 45-minute fitness class designed specifically for parents or guardians to get active with their children ages 5-11. You will be working together to encourage each other where you will be running, walking, doing bodyweight exercises and of course lots of fun!

This is a fantastic opportunity to get some fresh air and improve your fitness and wellbeing. 

The class is free with an ActiveLife membership, or £4.55 for adults and £1.85 per child and will take place outside on our athletics track and in-field.

Pilates is a 60-minute full body workout, designed to build core strength, improve posture and increase flexibility. Pilates is suitable for all levels of fitness. 

50+ Bowls

50+ Bowls are played indoors in the Arena. This is an inclusive group that meets twice each week and is included with ActiveLife. These sessions can be booked online.



Ideal for everyone, Les Mills BODYBALANCE is the yoga based class that will improve your mind, your body and your life. 

During BodyBalance, an inspired soundtrack plays as you bend and stretch through a series of simple yoga moves and embrace elements of Tai Chi and Pilates. 

You’ll strengthen your entire body, especially your core, and leave the class feeling calm and centred.

Chair Based Stetch

Chair Based Stretch is a gentle chair based stretching class that will guide you safely through stretches and movements to help improve your mobility, suppleness and circulation. You will require a sturdy chair for this class (ideally an armless chair).

This class is suitable for beginners and those with reduced mobility.

Movement Matters

Movement Matters focuses on improving mobility, balance and co-ordination from a standing and seated position. 

The class offers a gentler style of workout to help with general well-being and health.

Movement Matters Xtra

Movement Matters Xtra (MMX) will focus on strength, balance and flexibility exercises to help improve your overall health by building resistance, stamina and an awareness of breath to support movement. 

Chair and standing based this is ideal for the 50+ and those recovering from injury.  MMX will complement the Movement Matters session.

Yoga Align

Yoga Align is about bringing alignment to the body through the physical asanas, breathwork and stillness of the mind. 

Focus will be on the breakdown of asanas to be delivered in a meaningful way to bring about change to one’s own practice. 

Utilising the breath is key to ease of movement and the calmness of the mind will be promoted to aid concentration and awareness through the asanas. 

This is an ideal class to accompany Yoga for Strength.

Yoga Hit

A 30-minute range of poses in a faster paced and meaningful delivery for an all round energy boost.

Yoga for Strength

Yoga for Strength is designed to improve strength, stamina and flexibility. 

A combination of dynamic flowing and held postures to increase muscle resilience through deeper stretching and breathing.

This is an ideal class to accompany Yoga Align.

Stretch & Flex

Stretch & Flex is a 30-minute session that will help you learn and perform stretches to improve mobility and flexibility while helping you reduce the risk of injury.

This class is suitable for all levels and includes stretching options for the beginner to the advanced.

Mindful Yoga

Mindful Yoga has an emphasis on awareness of the body and breath, working gently and slowly while still developing flexibility and strength. This combined with a focus on relaxation during movement and the final relaxation period creates a sense of calm and well-being which we can take off our mat into our daily lives.

Mindful Yoga is suitable for all abilities as we work within our own comfortable range of movement.

Things to remember...

Wear cool, comfortable, practical sports clothing
Only wear training shoes
Respect other users - switch off your mobile
Keep hydrated - bring a water bottle
Obtain help from the instructor if you need it
Use and replace equipment safely
Tickets should be shown to the instructor when you arrive

Make your booking up to 14 days in advance
Use a debit/credit card to book by phone if you don't have a membership card
Set yourself up for the class - arrive 10 minutes early
If you need to cancel, please give 6 hours notice
Collect your ticket at least 5 minutes before the start of your class

All equipment used in the class is provided. 

Group Exercise Etiquette 

  • You must pay or produce your ActiveLife card at the customer service desk or quick ticket machines prior to entering the Group X class, and produce the ticket on entry to the instructor.
  • You are not permitted to pick up other users Group X tickets.
  • Class participants must check in to Group X classes at least 5 minutes before start of class, due to equipment set up (where applicable) and pre-class instructor guidance.
  • Anyone who arrives after the start of the class will be refused entry as it is disruptive for the rest of the class and taking part in the full warm up is essential.
  • You are not permitted to chew gum during class.
  • Mobile phone use is not permitted for the duration of a Group X class. Mobile phones must be placed on silent or turned off.

Minimum Ages

Please check minimum ages below for each type of Group X class, all 12 and 13-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult:

Cardio Classes: 12+ years  
Strength Classes: 16+ years 
Mind & Body Classes: 12+ years  
Aqua Classes: 12+ years
