Group X Timetable

With around 70 fitness classes a week, there is something for all abilities, ages and fitness levels. We offer a range of classes in Strength, Cardio, Mind & Body or Aqua based classes.

Our fully qualified instructors are on hand to give you expert advice and encouragement through the class, making sure you are getting the maximum benefits from your workout.

AquaFit is an instructor led high energy and fun fitness class in which you perform a range of aerobic moves using equipment such as aqua dumbbells and noodles for resistance. The water based class will help you increase your stamina and tone up all areas of your body. The water provides added resistance and support for a great challenge and actively reduces the amount of impact on your joints. No matter what your age, ability or experience, Aqua Fit is an inclusive activity suitable for everyone.  

Aqua Zumba

Aqua Zumba is a safe, effective and challenging water-based workout set to international dance rhythms that integrates the Zumba formula and philosophy into traditional aqua fitness – take the Zumba party to the pool!

Aqua Zumba Light

A slightly slower and gentler version of the popular aquatic Latin-inspired dance class. It’s easy to follow and, because your weight is supported in the water, it has little impact on joints. Great fun and makes working out a splash!


A low impact exercise class for pregnant or post pregnant women that improves sleep quality, reduces back pain, enhances well-being and encourages bonding.

Master Swim

Improve your technique, work towards goals and have fun. If you can swim 4 lengths front crawl then you’re ready to go! Ages 14+yrs.


Powerswim is a short intensive class designed to for adults who want to improve their swim stroke, technique and fitness level within a coached environment. This class is more suited to advanced swimmers.

Skills & Drills

Designed to help Adults develop their stroke technique and improve fitness. This session is taken by an Instructor giving adults the chance to improve and develop their swimming skills with the Instructor’s advice. Skills & Drills is more suited towards swimmers who can swim lengths but require more work on their technique.



BodyPump is a barbell workout for anyone looking to get lean, toned and fit - fast!  Using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition, BodyPump gives you a total body workout. You’ll leave the class feeling challenged and motivated, ready to come back for more.

CoreBalance will make your body stronger while increasing overall balance and posture. Through targeted exercises and stretches, this workout concentrates on abdominal muscles, glutes, hips and lower back to build muscle strength and help prevent injury. This class is suitable for all levels.

HIIT Strength

HIIT (high intensity interval training) Strength is designed to improve strength, body composition and fitness through a structured and fun workout. This class is suitable for all abilities.


Bootcamp gives you the chance to push your physical limits all the while having a laugh with like-minded people. The class mixes traditional body weight exercises with interval training and strength training using a variety of equipment such as battle ropes, tyres, sledgehammers and more. It is suitable for all abilities. This class will be held outside and should meet in the break out area next to the track each week.

Strength Circuits

Strength circuits is a high energy, strength based interval training class designed to improve strength, muscular endurance, body composition and burn fat fast. Suitable for all fitness levels.



BodyCombat is a high-energy martial-arts inspired workout that combines moves and stances from a range of self-defence disciplines like karate and boxing into an energetic routine. You will be challenged and motivated throughout every round. BodyCombat is suitable for anyone looking to burn lots of calories fast.

Boxing Circuits

Boxing circuits is a high energy, boxing based interval training class designed to improve overall fitness and burn fat fast. You will work with a partner through ten circuits focussing on basic boxing movements and light weight and body weight exercises. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.


BOX FIT is a high energy boxing based class designed to improve cardiovascular fitness, reduce stress and burn lots of calories. You will work in partners throughout the class and will be challenged with varying pad combinations and body weight exercises.


A combination of strength and cardio exercises with short, rapid movement between intervals. Using bodyweight, dumbbells and kettle bells, this class is designed to improve strength and endurance while burning calories to give you a full body workout. Circuits is suitable for all levels.

Cycle Express

Cycle Express is a 30 minute high energy cycling based class that involves performing sprint intervals on a spin bike. This feel good class will help improve your health, cardiovascular fitness and mood. Cycle Express is suitable for all fitness levels.

Cycle Fit

A fun, cardiovascular indoor cycling workout that guarantees you will improve your fitness and leave you on a high!

FatBurn Extreme

FatBurn Extreme is a fixed 20 minute, maximal intensity workout with no dictated rest periods. This means participants will work until failure and rest only for recovery, making it specific to the individual regardless of age, gender, or current fitness capabilities.

Fit ‘n’ 50+

A safe and effective low impact workout with seated strength work to fun, motivating music.

Floor Barre

Floor-barre is a technique in ballet training that takes the basic ballet barre training from the standing position to the floor. Lengthen, strengthen, align and tone your body with ballet and Pilates inspired exercises on the floor - no ballet or dance experience required. Doing these exercises on the floor improves posture and body awareness in turn improving any work done standing. It's also great for people with injuries and the elderly or anyone else who doesn't have great balance.


STRONG incorporates interval cardio training with core and functional training using your own body weight alongside great music to keep you motivated.

This class is suitable for all levels of fitness however anyone with any ongoing medical conditions should check with their health professional.

Intermittent High intensity moves are interchanged with lower intensity moves with modifying exercises available to the participant.  STRONG will improve your strength, stamina, cardio power, mobility and balance while having fun!


Tone is a full-body workout using a mix of cardio, resistance and core exercises. Combining weights, steps and a mat, the class improves functional strength, flexibility and co-ordination while strengthening your core. This class is designed for all levels of fitness.

Walking Football

Walking football is a variant of association football and an excellent way of staying fit and healthy. For older people, it has proven to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke while improving blood pressure. Although a low impact sport, the game produces high aerobic activity and improves balance, strength and stamina, all the while having fun with a like-minded group of people.

Zumba Fitness

Zumba combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations making this a fantastic dance-based fitness workout. Zumba is a fun aerobic workout suitable for people of all ages.

Zumba Gold

Zumba Gold is for beginners and Active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity. The design of the class introduces easy-to-follow Zumba choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination.

Zumba Light

Zumba Light is a feel good dance class suitable for all ages. It is similar to normal Zumba but has less high intensity moves, making it a little easier.

Zumba Fitness

Zumba combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations making this a fantastic dance-based fitness workout. Zumba is a fun aerobic workout suitable for people of all ages.

Coach By Color - Indoor Cycling

Our Coach By Color® class brings a simple and intuitive form of communication to group cycling to improve the rider experience and to achieve your fitness results in less time. The Coach By Color® power programme combines accurate zonal training with stimulating colour to help coach your effort during the class. The instructor will work you relevant to your exercise ability via the Coach By Color® five coloured training zones - white, blue, green, yellow and red - making the class fun but also extremely inclusive.



BarreConcept classes use a combination of postures inspired by ballet and other disciplines like yoga and Pilates. The barre or a chair can be used as a prop to balance while doing exercises that focus on isometric strength training combined with high reps of small range-of-motion movements.


Ideal for everyone, BodyBalance is the yoga based class that will improve your mind, your body and your life.  During BodyBalance, an inspired soundtrack plays as you bend and stretch through a series of simple yoga moves and embrace elements of Tai Chi and Pilates.  You’ll strengthen your entire body, especially your core, and leave the class feeling calm and centred.

Centred Yoga

Centred Yoga focuses on posture, alignment, rooting and the breath. Regular practice is very beneficial to improving flexibility, core strength and stamina while at the same time helping to reduce tension and stress and create a sense of peace and stillness within the body and mind. The classes, which are based on the work of Dona Holleman, are geared so that everybody can get some benefit whether young or older, beginner or more experienced. 

Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga is a general term for practices that modify yoga poses so that they can be done while seated in a chair. 

Chair Yoga has been designed to make the numerous benefits of classical yoga available to a wider range of physical abilities.

Circuit Pilates

Circuit Pilates is a whole-body conditioning workout that will improve strength, stamina and overall physical functionality. The class uses more equipment than at a regular Pilate's class in a circuit and varied format. You don’t need to be experienced at Pilates to try this class - you’ll receive plenty of feedback to maximise the effectiveness of your workout, whatever your fitness level. Circuit Pilates is a great class that will help keep you fit while rehabilitating old injuries and preventing new ones.

Fitness Yoga

Yoga will compliment any fitness routine as you increase strength and flexibility and promote muscle toning. The flowing routines done to music can improve cardio vascular fitness and increase stamina as well as providing a balanced fitness routine. Breathing with movement massages the organs acting as a detox and is scientifically proven to reduce the effect of stress.

Functional Mobility

The functional mobility class will be focused on increasing mobility, balance and postural strength to increase participants functional movement capabilities.


Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core and spinal stability. It is designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, and posture, and to develop a mind-body connection. This class will be practiced on a mat but props may be incorporated to add variety. It’s a great compliment to other sports and can help prevent injury.

Xercise Lite

Modelled around Otago and Chair Based Exercises, this light session is inclusive and aims to improve strength, balance and endurance.  Ideal for keeping active and mobile in later life, recovering from an injury or as an introduction to exercise.

Yoga for Strength

Yoga for Strength is designed to improve strength, stamina and flexibility.   A combination of dynamic flowing and held postures to increase muscle resilience through deeper stretching and breathing.

Yoga Align

Yoga Align is about bringing alignment to the body through the physical asanas, breathwork and stillness of the mind.  Focus will be on the breakdown of asanas to be delivered in a meaningful way to bring about change to one’s own practice.  Utilising the breath is key to ease of movement and the calmness of the mind will be promoted to aid concentration and awareness through the asanas.  This class is ideal to accompany Yoga for Strength.

Candlelit Yoga

Treat yourself to a mini escape from the festive rush. Come and enjoy a deeply calming candlelit session followed by a guided relaxation. Suitable for all fitness levels, the class is designed with relaxation in mind, all to the soothing flicker of candlelight where you'll leave feeling fully restored.

Things to remember...

Wear cool, comfortable, practical sports clothing
Only wear training shoes
Respect other users - switch off your mobile
Keep hydrated - bring a water bottle
Obtain help from the instructor if you need it
Use and replace equipment safely
Tickets should be shown to the instructor when you arrive

Make your booking up to 14 days in advance
Use a debit/credit card to book by phone if you don't have a membership card
Set yourself up for the class - arrive 10 minutes early
If you need to cancel, please give 6 hours notice
Collect your ticket at least 5 minutes before the start of your class

All equipment used in the class is provided. 

Group Exercise Etiquette 

  • You must pay or produce your ActiveLife card at the customer service desk or quick ticket machines prior to entering the Group X class, and produce the ticket on entry to the instructor.
  • You are not permitted to pick up other users Group X tickets.
  • Class participants must check in to Group X classes at least 5 minutes before start of class, due to equipment set up (where applicable) and pre-class instructor guidance.
  • Anyone who arrives after the start of the class will be refused entry as it is disruptive for the rest of the class and taking part in the full warm up is essential.
  • You are not permitted to chew gum during class.
  • Mobile phone use is not permitted for the duration of a Group X class. Mobile phones must be placed on silent or turned off.

Minimum Ages

Please check minimum ages below for each type of Group X class, all 12 and 13-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult:

Cardio Classes: 12+ years  
Strength Classes: 16+ years 
Mind & Body Classes: 12+ years  
Aqua Classes: 12+ years
