Price increase from 1st April at Picky

Friday, March 24, 2023

ActiveLife, The Pickaquoy Centre Trust’s Orkney-wide membership scheme, has seen thousands of Orkney residents improve their health and wellbeing since its inception in January 2017.

In partnership with Orkney Islands Council, the membership offers unlimited access to a huge range of activities at Picky and 11 Council-owned leisure facilities throughout the county.

Based on customer feedback, and the steady increase of visitors using the facility following the return of services post-pandemic, maintaining a healthy lifestyle remains a priority to the Orkney public.

James Linklater, The Pickaquoy Centre Trust’s Managing Director, said: “ActiveLife’s ethos - More People, More Active, More Often - is as significant now as the day the scheme launched, if not more so. Understandably it took some time for many people to feel comfortable returning to the centre following the Covid-19 pandemic, but we are now seeing a very busy facility that feels much like it did prior to March 2020.

“Although there has been a steady increase in footfall, it has been an extremely difficult three years and we are still not back to where we were pre-pandemic levels in terms of memberships. Last year we chose to keep the membership frozen for the fourth year running as we understood the challenges people were facing.

“Following our recent annual customer survey, over 91% of respondents said they were ‘extremely satisfied’ or ‘satisfied’ with our services which is fantastic and shows our hard work is being valued. It is of great importance to us as a charitable trust that we continue offering a high level of service and value for money for our customers, but in order to do this we need to plan for the future which includes the sustainability of the centre. With this in mind, there will be some upcoming changes for customers to be aware of.”

From 1 April 2023, the following prices will change:

  • ActiveLife individual and family memberships will increase by £2.50 per month (£35 and £25 respectively).
  • ActiveIslands individual and family memberships will increase by £2.50 per month (£20 and £15 respectively).
  • Pay ‘n’ play prices will increase by 10%.

James continued: “We're delighted with the evolution of the membership over the past six years. There have been a number of improvements that have been added to ActiveLife, we've listed just a few below:

  • 20% discount in The Phoenix Cinema will permanently remain as part of ActiveLife individual and family memberships following the 12-month pilot period.
  • The enhanced indoor cycling experience continues to develop with further improvements to be added over the next few months.
  • New gym equipment has been installed in a number of gyms throughout Orkney including Picky, KGS, Stromness and Dounby.
  • The LeisureLink Partnership continues to grow with a new Scottish mainland leisure trust getting added to the Partnership - details will be released soon.

“We are also pleased that for the fifth year running, the ActiveLife Budget membership will remain frozen at 50p per activity to continue helping those most in need.

“Support from our customers has been greatly appreciated these last few years, and we look forward to continuing our high level of service to the Orkney community for years to come.”

All current ActiveLife members will have their direct debits automatically updated with the next payment due to come out on 1 April 2023.
