Picky’s service update as restrictions ease

Friday, April 23, 2021

The Pickaquoy Centre will see more services become available following the Scottish government’s timetable for the relaxation of rules over the coming weeks and months.

Indicative dates have been provided as lockdown rules ease across the country.

In line with the Scottish government’s current timeline, Picky’s services will resume as protection levels go down:

Monday 26 April:

  • Orkney Caravan Park will reopen for visitors outside of Orkney
  • Pitches will become available for outdoor non-contact sports for over-18’s

Monday 17 May:

  • The Phoenix Cinema reopens
  • Group X classes will resume
  • Pitches will become available for outdoor contact sports for all
  • 50+ Badminton club sessions resume
  • Outdoor Walking Football will commence

Monday 7 June:

  • Jungle World reopens
  • Inflatable sessions resume

James Linklater, Managing Director of The Pickaquoy Centre Trust, said: “We are delighted that the majority of our services will become available once again over the next couple of months if Covid cases remain low, albeit with limitations on numbers for the time being.

“These are indicative dates, and therefore we can’t guarantee that these services will resume on these dates until we get confirmation from the Scottish Government. However, the safety of our customers and staff remains the priority, and we will maintain vigilance and continue all additional Covid measures currently in place.

“The prospect of protection levels going down and getting back to a more normal way of living is a great relief. We have been very lucky that we’ve remained open with a number of services since November, but we have hugely missed having the opportunity to offer the cinema, our Group X classes and all of the other activities that would normally be available.

“We are also in the process of reviewing the reopening of other areas such as the café, leisure pool and running of events later in the year, but this must be done in a strategic manner, and only once we are confident that these areas are financially viable in both the short/long term and fully Covid safe.

“The support from the public and community has really helped us through this challenging year, and we very much look forward to giving back by providing the full range of services that would normally be available as soon as possible.”
