April Newsletter
Each month we send out an email telling our customers 'What's On' for the month. With the centre closed, this month offers something different and includes a letter from James Linklater, Managing Director.
You can view the April Newsletter here, or read the letter below.
Dear Customer,
As many of you will already be aware, The Pickaquoy Centre closed on Friday 20 March alongside all Orkney Islands Council leisure, cultural and library facilities due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. I write this message with a heavy heart as this is not something I ever expected to face when I became The Trust’s Managing Director just over 18 months ago, but here we are, each of us dealing with these challenges in our own way. One thing that makes this concerning time more bearable for me, and all of the team at Picky, is the fantastic support we've received from our customers and the wider Orkney community, and I can't thank you enough.
The next few months will continue to be challenging, but it is heartening to see our community pull together with a number of volunteers across our islands making themselves available to help those most in need. In addition, the Orkney Coronavirus Community Support Hub, which is based at Picky, opened as a call centre this week to provide essential information and support to the most vulnerable people in Orkney. We are pleased to be working closely with Orkney Islands Council, Orkney Health and Care, NHS Orkney and other Third Sector organisations for such an important cause.
It is vital that we all follow the strict government guidelines put in place to help save lives, but we can do that and still focus on our own physical health and mental well-being. Be sure to keep an eye on our Facebook page where we are sharing home workouts and other motivational materials, and will continue to do so throughout this period of closure. If there is anything specific you would like to see, please don't hesitate to contact us on Facebook Messenger.
I would also like to remind you that all ActiveLife and ActiveIslands memberships will be frozen from Wednesday 1 April, and will remain frozen until the centre reopens.
I hope all of you are finding ways to stay positive and are able to focus on your health, both mind and body. Please do continue to reach out. Again, thank you for your continued support.
Stay healthy and look after one another.
Kindest regards,
James Linklater
