Support Ukraine with Picky

The Pickaquoy Centre will be showing special screenings in the cinema and holding a month-long raffle to help raise money for humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

The Phoenix Cinema has come together with other cinemas around the UK in support of Ukraine to show two unique screenings next week.

Encounters Film Festival have curated a programme of short films to highlight, celebrate, and support Ukrainian filmmakers and artists.

'Encounters Presents: Ukrainian Shorts' will be showing in The Phoenix Cinema next Tuesday (12 April) at 1pm and 7:30pm. All proceeds of this screening being donated to the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

‘Olga’, the award-winning drama, offers a special preview charity screening with a donation to support Ukraine from each ticket sold to The Disasters Emergency Committee. This film will be showing in The Phoenix Cinema on Thursday (14 April) at 1pm and 7:30pm.

To raise even more funds The Pickaquoy Centre plans to hold their own raffle with all proceeds being donated to the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

Raffle tickets are £1 each and can be purchased at Reception or in the Cinema. The draw will take place on 7th May.

James Linklater, Managing Director of The Pickaquoy Centre, said: “People across Orkney have come together in amazing ways to show their support for Ukraine these past six weeks. Unfortunately, the dire situation continues with millions of people needing help.

“The British Red Cross is an excellent charity that does vital work, and this is an opportunity to raise even more money for this extremely important cause. There are some fantastic prizes on offer, so we hope to sell a lot of raffle tickets.”
