The Picky Sponsorship Programme, available to athletes across Orkney, is now accepting applications.
The Programme awards ten athletes an ActiveLife membership giving them unlimited access to The Pickaquoy Centre and all 11 Council owned leisure facilities across the islands.
The 12-month membership offers successful applicants the same benefits that paying members receive.
The aim of the sponsorship scheme is to help and prepare Orkney's team or individual athletes who are living and training locally to perform on a regional, national and international stage.
Sponsorship will be allocated through an application process, with athletes required to evidence their commitment to their chosen sport and outline how the support would improve their performance and help them meet their objectives.
James Linklater, Managing Director of The Pickaquoy Centre, said: “The new sponsorship scheme was rolled out in 2019, and so far it has been very successful with multiple sponsorship recipients achieving new PB’s and breaking local and even world records.
“Many of the sponsored athletes were recognised at the Orkney Sports Awards in January which was fantastic to witness and further emphasised the hard-work and dedication that these individuals commit to their chosen sport.
“Our aim is to support athletes that have the potential to perform at an elite level, but we would also encourage those to apply that act as a role model and inspire other local athletes and youngsters.
“An ActiveLife membership offers a huge array of training activities in fantastic facilities across our community, and this sponsorship gives athletes a real opportunity to improve their training and hopefully reach their full potential.”
To be considered for the programme, applications must be received no later than Friday, 28 February 2020.
